Evaluation of Hepatitis B and C Prevalence

Evaluation of Hepatitis B and C Prevalence via Community Health Outreaches in San Diego

Hepatitis B and C currently affect over 5 million Americans, with 40 –80% being unaware of their infection1,2,3. Certain U.S. populations are disproportionately impacted by chronic HBV and often die from complications such as cirrhosis and liver cancer4. These populations need targeted interventions that can prevent new cases of infection and improve quality of life for infected individuals. Poor health literacy and lack of screening among these populations pose major obstacles to the identification of HBV/HCV, surveillance, and timely treatment. The Asian Pacific Health Foundation aims to bridge the knowledge gap, screen at-risk individuals who would otherwise not have access to healthcare services, and link them to care as needed. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of HBV and HCV via APHF health screening outreaches. Identifying the prevalence is key to developing effective programs for prevention.
