Introduction
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, is a severe form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. NASH is distinguished by the presence of hepatic inflammation. As patients with early-stage NASH often remain asymptomatic, the condition is significantly underdiagnosed and prevalence estimates vary widely. Most prevalence estimates for NASH range from 1 to 6% of US adults.
